The Creality Ender 3 was my first 3D printer outside of the XYZ Da Vinci printers I ran at work, I first got it in in 2018 and it has been a essential part of my workflow for the folowing 5 years. eventualy being retired form service in 2023 do to a change in needs that the Ender couldn’t meet without exstensive modifications.
Modifications over the years
Like any machine it didn’t take long before I started to find things that could be improved opon…
2018
- Installed TL-Smoother PCBs on all axis and extruder
- New print head shround and cooling fans, in order to improve cooling
- switched from stock print surface to a glass one
2019
- Reinforcement of the Z axis using 10mm rods as a crossbrace between the printer base and top of Z axis
2020
- Rewire N.1, in order to include front panell switches, light and fuse box
- Raspberry pi based IP camera
- Swapable hot ends system in order to change between 0.1, 0.4 and 0.8mm nozzles without dismanteling the hot end
2021
- upgraded mainboard to an Ender 3 pro silent mainboard
- swaped form LCD display to touch screen display
2022
- Rewire N.2, moved electronics to back of machine
- Octoprint integration
2023
- Started building an enclosure for the printer before realizing that I wouldn’t have the space to store it alongside the “3D Cube project” printer

Like all 3d Printers it has seen alot of diferent types of prints over the years aswell as rackiong up well over 1000 Hours of print time.
