3D Ripper
Project 3D Cube continues…
This time with a compleate redesign and taking inspiration from the popular VORON and ratRig 3D printer designs.
The Design
The driving idea behind this design was to have a printer that was contained within it’s on frame, be network capable and have a decent heating / extractor system for the enclosure, as such I adopted a Core XY kinematic mounted on the Z axis gantry, while the print bed remained stationary at the bottom of the printer.
Core XY Vs cartesian Kinematics
WIP
Core XY
Pros
- Speed
- Easy diagonal motion
- Accurate movements
- Stable, lightweight printhead
- Minimal footprint
Cons
- Confined to belt-driven XY motion
- Expensive
- Complicated assembly
Cartesian
Pros
- Simplicity
- Motion options
- Great straight motion
- Easy to upgrade
Cons
- Large footprint
- Heavy frame
- Slow
- Vibration
Project Features
- Rapid print speeds
- Full enclosure
- Network interface
- Heated chamber
- Safety systems (fuse box, Estop)
